Derek Robben, MD, FAPA, MRO – Medical Director
Dr. Robben has dual board-certifications in addiction psychiatry and general psychiatry and completed his addiction fellowship at the University of South Florida. Dr. Robben is the Director of the Addiction Psychiatry Residency Program at USF. He has been published in peer reviewed journals and earned the following awards: Faculty Clinical Teaching Award, Outstanding Resident Teacher, Outstanding Student in Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry, Award for Clinical Excellence in Neuropsychiatry Clerkship, Outstanding Radiology Instructor/Preceptor, U.S. Air Force. Dr. Robben was voted by his peers as the Top Addiction Doctor in Tampa Bay three years running (2016-2018).
Liz Harden, LMHC, CAP – Executive Director
Graduating from the University of Tampa 1989, Liz Harden began dedicating all aspects of her professional career to addictions and dual-disorders treatment. Well known for her development of award-winning specialty programs for women and people with co-occurring psychiatric illnesses, as the first female and clinically licensed Chief Operating Officer of DACCO (2007 – 2014), Liz’s leadership helped propel the Tampa community-based non-profit agency into the modern healthcare era, benefitting the indigent and the working poor. In 2002, Liz began evaluating, treating and monitoring licensed health professionals with substance use disorders and other psychiatric illnesses. Liz’s passion and energy is born from her own family history of alcoholism and recovery. Having walked in the shoes of despair and hopelessness, watching loved ones suffering from the disease, unwilling to seek treatment, Liz became a trusted guide for those in similar circumstances, assisting loved-ones with court-involved involuntary treatment, when necessary.
Jaime Fernandez, MD – Medical Director of Mental Health Programs
In addition to her practice at BoardPrep, Dr. Fernandez is the Medical Director of Psychiatric Services at HCA Memorial Hospital of Tampa, providing enhanced linkage with hospital services when needed. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at the University Of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Well known for her innovative work in treating mood disorders with ECT, Dr. Fernandez is also now an approved provider of the Florida Department of Health for the evaluation and treatment of Florida licensed health practitioners.
Dr. Fernandez holds clinic onsite several times per week, as needed for BoardPrep patients.

Transformed by personal recovery in 1983, John began helping other young people in treatment at the age of 19. He has dedicated his life and career to helping others recover.
Peter Vagg, PhD – Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Vagg has over 25 years of objective testing experience, specific to individuals with substance use and dual disorders. Dr. Vagg completed his Honors and Masters degrees at the University of Melbourne, Australia, a Doctor in Philosophy from the University of Michigan and post-doctoral training at the University of South Florida. Additionally, Dr. Vagg worked as a professor of psychology at the University of South Florida, at Long Island University and at the Center for Behavioral Medicine and Health Psychology at the University of South Florida. He has edited two books and published over thirty articles in scientific journals and magazines as well as presenting papers on his work in the United States, Europe and Australia. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Personality Assessment, the International Association of Applied Psychology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic examiners.
John Lesko, JD, CAP – Professionals’ Program Director
As BoardPrep’s Director of Professionals’ Programs, John Lesko “Johnny” is involved in treatment decisions throughout the entire care process. Mr. Lesko is a clinician first, but also a seasoned and powerful advocate. His unique training and experience have prepared him for this exciting position, representing BoardPrep’s expanding commitment of resources for Physicians, Health Professionals Programs, Lawyer Assistance Programs, Nurses and Pilots.
Mr. Lesko coordinates the clinical care, as well as legal and licensing concerns, for licensed medical and legal professionals receiving treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Johnny is dually credentialed as a Certified Addiction Professional and a Certified Criminal Justice Addiction Professional, and has worked full-time in mental health and substance treatment since 2008. He also served as Programs Coordinator for the American Society of Addiction Medicine, Florida Chapter, and was active drafting proposed resolutions for submission to the Florida legislature. Johnny practiced litigation in Cincinnati, Ohio, 1994 to 2007, specializing in the pursuit of workers’ compensation, Social Security Disability, and personal injury claims.
Mr. Lesko earned his law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, 1994, and a B.A. in economics from UCLA, 1989. He is dually certified by the Florida Certification Board as a CAP and CCJAP
Debra Mandt – Consultant
With 15+ years of leadership and management experience in non-profits and digital marketing, Debra utilizes her passion and expertise to make recovery more accessible. Her networking efforts in the community improve understanding of substance uses and mental health disorders, lowering stigma and creating more opportunities for recovery.
As the former owner of Mascus America and Executive Director American Heart Association Tampa Bay, Debra is a career professional, proven innovator and entrepreneur. Debra has always been passionate about helping people but she has a special passion about helping people with substance use disorders and dual disorders find recovery.
Justin LaRosa, LCSW – Pastor & Therapist
The Reverend Justin LaRosa provides pastoral leadership and support to all the patients, families and staff of BoardPrep Recovery Center

Archie Hayes, CAC – Counselor
Archie became a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor through the renowned Parkside Medical Services counselor training program in the 1980’s. After a successful career at Parkside, Mr. Hayes fulfilled various leadership roles in the field including clinical supervisor and client advocate manager. His skill and experience in working with difficult dual-diagnosis is unparalleled. Archie is also well respected for his knowledge of 12-step recovery, as well as his infectious sense of humor and ability to “carry the message.”
Cory Albano, MA, RMHCI – Clinical Coordinator
Cory earned her Masters Degree in Rehabilitation and Mental Health from the University of South Florida. She also holds a Bachelors Degree in Clinical Counseling and Applied Psychology from the University of South Florida. Cory has specialized in substance use disorders and dual disorders for her entire professional career. As Clinical Coordinator at BoardPrep Recovery Center, Cory works directly with individual clients and their families to help them achieve their best results from treatment. Cory’s possesses a rare combination of passion for recovery, creativity and clinical acumen, making her stand out as a special talent in the professional treatment field.
Ian Rivera, MSW, RCSWI – Program Director
Ian earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work with concentrations in Behavioral and Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Trauma Informed Care from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Ian also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Upper Iowa University.
For the past 5 years, Ian has assisted adults with mental health, criminal justice involvement and substance use disorders to overcome barriers and live a fulfilling life. Ian takes a strength-based approached to empower his clients on the road to recovery.
Daniel Clemons, MSW – Clinical Support Staff
Daniel Clemons received his Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky and a Masters in Religion and Theology Education from St. Meinrad School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Indiana. Daniel has thirty five years of experience as a teacher, counselor, family therapist and manager in human service organizations. Daniel has worked to provide clients with tailored treatment programs that can be integrated within their daily lives, and his passion is to assist in empowering families and individuals so they may develop healthy perceptions of themselves as well as strengthen their relationships.
Daniel Laukaitis, LCSW, CAP – Therapist
Daniel Laukaitis, LCSW, MCAP, CCM, works at BoardPrep Recovery Center as a therapist who focuses on group therapy, Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and trauma therapy. His clinical areas of specialty are: substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, trauma recovery using EMDR, hypnosis/guided imagery, and cognitive behavior. He is an EMDRIA approved EMDR therapist and his work has involved working with survivors of complex sexual and emotional trauma in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He is a graduate of Florida International University School of Social Work in Miami and is fluent in English and Spanish.
Raymond Yosuico, CAC – Counselor
A Certified Addictions Counselor and Recovery Coach, Ray Yosuico has more than 25 years of substance abuse treatment experience in a range of inpatient and outpatient settings. Ray has developed a highly practical yet spiritually grounded approach. His experience includes work at the renowned treatment center, Father Martin’s Ashley as well as SOME Maya Angelou extended inpatient facility, based in Washington, D.C.
Ray specializes in one-on-one coaching and group programs such as relapse prevention and 12-step recovery principles. With an extensive background in criminal justice, including as a former Maryland Drinking Driver Probation program manager, Ray is skilled at motivating clients from crisis to healthy life change.
Angel Ortega-Valentin, LCSW – Clinical Supervisor
Angel obtained his Master’s Degree in Social Work with concentrations in Behavioral and Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Trauma Informed Care and Community Organizing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Angel also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of South Florida. Angel engages in CBT, Recreational and Solution Focused Therapeutic models to assist clients on the road to recovery.
Peggy Moss – Chef
Peggy Moss is the executive chef at BoardPrep Recovery Center, with over fourteen years in event planning, catering and client servicing. Client meals are expertly crafted to suit all needs and Peggy ensures that clients are provided the opportunity to assist so that they may learn how to prepare nutritious and delicious meals for themselves in the future. Peggy is also a Pastor with the United Methodist Church, working towards a Masters of Divinity at Emory University, and is the instructor for BoardPrep Recovery Center’s Mindfulness/Spirituality group session.
Sarah Horn, BS – Clinical Support Supervisor
Sarah is currently in graduate school for licensed mental health counseling. She received her bachelors from the University of South Florida in Health Sciences, focusing on social and behavioral science. Sarah began working in the mental health field in 2014, specializing in substance use disorders, dual-diagnosis and addiction. As the Clinical Support Supervisor, Sarah provides support to the BoardPrep medical team as well as ensures optimal daily functioning within the clinical team.
Sophia Guzman – Financial Coordinator
Sophia has many years of experience in the healthcare field, including teaching and administrative duties. Sophia provides the highest level of professionalism and quality-assurance in bookkeeping, billing, vendor management and other administrative duties.
Gabrielle Rivera, BS – Patient Care Coordinator
Gabrielle is the Patient Care Coordinator and works as a liaison between staff, patients, and families to ensure a smooth transition before, during and after treatment. She has experience in customer service, administrative duties, and community service projects. She attained a bachelors in health sciences specializing in biological and behavioral health sciences from USF in 2018.
Doug Goodhead, RN – Registered Nurse
Doug is an RN who has over nine years of experience working with addictions, detox, recovery and mental health. Doug also has experience working in hospitals and long-term care. He currently helps out on his days off at a detox facility in Pinellas County. Doug is BLS certified. Doug holds an ADN in Nursing from Galen College of Nursing and is nearly finished with his BSN.
Kristin Faubion, MSW – Primary Therapist
Kristin is a master’s level counselor who works to educate clients about the primary, chronic disease of addiction involving brain reward, motivation, memory, and related circuitry. Kristin strives to help clients learn how to relieve symptoms of their addiction, but also to achieve full recovery in the areas of work, school, family, spirituality, and community. Kristin has 5 years of experience working with trauma-informed care, substance use disorders, recovery, and dual-diagnoses and utilizes a strength-based approach to empower her clients on the road to recovery. Kristin holds a Master of Science in Psychology with specialization in Neuropsychology from University of Texas at Tyler and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from University of Central Florida.
Meagan Coakley, BSPH – Operations Coordinator
As Operations Coordinator, Meagan ensures that facility operations are running smoothly, and provides administrative support to BoardPrep Recovery Center’s specialized treatment team providing care to professionals from across the United States. With over four years of professional experience working around the Tampa Bay Area, Meagan has been in various leadership roles and has ultimately chosen to apply her skills in the mental health field, where she is focusing on her interest in addiction recovery. Meagan earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the University of South Florida in 2014.
Jim Fleeman, MSW – Primary Therapist
James (Jim) Fleeman is a therapist at BoardPrep Recovery Center working alongside individuals and their families who are facing addiction and mental health challenges. During this journey towards recovery, Jim assists patients to regain their sense of life balance and helps create the frame work of a sober and stable lifestyle, for both the patient and their loved ones. Jim completed his graduate education through the Greater Rochester Collaborative Master of Social Work program (a collaboration between the State University of New York, SUNY, and Nazareth College in Upstate New York) and currently holds a Master of Social Work degree. Jim has worked professionally in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and New York; the last being where he practiced for 10 years with his LMSW. Jim is currently working to obtain his LCSW in the State of Florida, as well as his Certified Addiction Professional credential (CAP). Jim is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Existential Therapy, traditional Psychotherapy, and has worked with individuals who have both battled addiction and have suffered from a traumatic brain injury.
