Recovery Coach Training
Orientation Session

- Who: the orientation is free and open to anyone interested in working in the addiction recovery field. Classes will begin in January and will be free for eligible BoardPrep Alumni. A small fee will be charged for non-alumni to cover cost of materials.

Beginning January 2017, BoardPrep Recovery Center® is hosting classes to help guide candidates through the certification process to become a Recovery Support Specialist. The 6-month program. Come learn more about becoming a Recovery Coach (Certified Recovery Support Specialist) at the December 12 orientation!

BoardPrep Recovery offers professional training for Recovery Coaches and Counselors. BoardPrep Recovery is an approved education Provider of the Florida Certification Board (FCB). FCB offers a credential ladder, starting with the Certified Recovery Support Specialist (Recovery Coach). This entry-level credential is an excellent option for people interested in working directly with clients/patients in early recovery. Recovery Coach applicants must complete and document a minimum of 75 hours of training as follows.
- Legal and Professional Responsibility: 22 hours total, broken out as follows:
- Ethics: 6 hours
- HIPAA/Confidentiality: 2 hours
- Cultural Competency: 4 hours
- Self-care/Professional Development: 4 hours
- Electives related to Legal and Professional Responsibility: 6 hours total, broken out as follows:
- Reengagement, Crisis Support and Safety: 13 hours total, broken out as follows:
- Risk/Crisis Management: 6 hours
- Domestic Violence: 3 hours
- Electives related to Reengagement, Crisis Support and Safety: 4 hours
- Resource Linkage/Follow-Up: 13 hours total, broken out as follows:
- Active Care Coordination: 6 hours
- Documentation: 3 hours
- Electives related to Resource Linkage/Follow-up: 4 hours
- Practical Living Skills/Social Development: 10 hours total, broken out as follows:
- Social Development: 6 hours
- Electives related to Practical Living Skills/Social Development: 4 hours
- Recovery Management: 17 hours total, broken out as follows:
- Overview of Addiction/Stages of Recovery: 4 hours
- Addiction and Brain Chemistry/Pharmacology: 3 hours
- Recovery Management: 2 hours
- Co-occurring Disorders: 4 hours
- Lapse/Relapse Prevention: 2 hours
- Motivational Enhancement: 2 hours
Eligibility
- To begin classes
- Three months of continuous personal recovery
- Completed 4th and 5th step and have a working knowledge of personal recovery
- To begin supervised work hours
- Six months of continuous personal recovery
- Completed 8th and 9th step
- Three months of relevant service work
- Recommendation of two professionals
